How to Sign a PDF Electronically for Free
The print-sign-scan dance is dead. You can add a signature to a PDF in under a minute, right from your browser, without a printer in sight.
Three ways to create a signature
With Sign PDF you can:
- Draw it with your mouse, trackpad or finger.
- Type your name and pick a handwriting-style font.
- Upload a photo of your signature.
Then just click where you want it on the page, resize, and download the signed document.
Prefer to make the signature first?
- Draw Signature creates a clean, transparent PNG you can reuse anywhere.
- Typed Signature turns your name into a signature image.
- Upload Signature removes the background from a photo of your signature.
Filling out forms
If your PDF has actual form fields (checkboxes, text boxes), use Fill PDF Form instead — you can type directly into the fields and optionally flatten the form so the values can't be changed afterwards.
Stamps and dates
Need "APPROVED" or today's date on a document? Stamp PDF and Date Stamp PDF have you covered.
Is an electronic signature legal?
In many countries, a clear intent to sign plus a visible signature is legally recognised for most everyday agreements. For high-stakes contracts you may need a certificate-based (qualified) e-signature from a specialised provider. For the vast majority of forms, invoices and letters, a visible signature is exactly what's expected — and it all happens privately on your device.
